AMA: Creative Director Brenden “PLAYERUNKNOWN” Greene

Brenden “PLAYERUNKNOWN” Greene dropped by the Top PUBG subreddit today to answer some questions from the community. While we didn’t get any groundbreaking info from the Creative Director, we did learn some interesting details on what to expect moving forward and some answers on some of the more frustrating issues players have experienced with the game.

Some of the biggest issues that players face while playing PUBG is the net code, server tick rate, and hit detection in the game. These have been issues that fans have been waiting to see improvement on since the release of early access and when asked about the net code issues Brenden gave the following response:

“This is not an easy task, and may take many months to implement but I understand your frustrations, and while I can’t speak to specifics about what and how we will optimize the net code (as it’s beyond my understanding) we will continue to apply optimizations and work to improve all the things you mentioned. It is one aspect of the game we want to improve!”

As we move later into the year, and the list of features being added to the game continues to grow, many have started to wonder if PUBG will keep its official release window and what features will be included when it moves from early access to launch. Thankfully, Brenden touched on the subject by giving a hard list of features that will be in release and reassured players it will be moving from early access before the end of the year.

“So, just to clarify what we will 100% be adding for the full release:

  • User interface rework
  • Profound debugging of the vehicles physics (This will be an ongoing process continuing after full release)
  • Bullet physics rework
  • Audio mix and volume rework
  • Client heavy optimizations (This will be an ongoing process continuing after full release)
  • Network code, predictions and tempo management heavy optimizations (This will be an ongoing process continuing after full release)
  • Improving server’s stability, and increase in performance and tick rate (This will be an ongoing process continuing after full release)
  • 3D Replays

Again, I just want to remind everyone that full release of the game doesn’t mean we stop development. We are building out a service that we intend to improve on over the coming months and years, and even if we don’t get everything into our full release, we will be working to add any missing features in the months and years following our move to 1.0”

Along with touching on net code and the features that players can expect to be added before the game moves into full release, Brenden also dropped a few new surprises that will be coming to the game. These surprises include improvements and reworks of Erangel, major improvements to the FPP experience, 3 new vehicles, and crosshair customization.

    Will there ever be fixes to early lag during the start of games.

      From what they said during the AMA it’s in the works! Not sure on when we will see it though.
